The Fraser Valley real estate market is a great region for a young family to find their perfect starter or forever home.  The region has a very wide variety of housing types, at prices that are relatively cheap, compared to some of the more urban centres adjacent to Vancouver.  You can get way more bang for your housing buck in the Fraser Valley in many respects.

Lots of Housing Choices

There is a very large and diverse housing stock in the Fraser Valley.  A couple or family can easily move up the property ladder in a smooth and reasonable manner as their housing needs evolve over time.  For example, it is easy to get into a condo to start with and progress into a townhome very soon after.  From there, a single-family home can become within reach after just a few short years.  And if a regular single family home isn’t enough, there are countless desirable acreages and farms always available.  The housing options afforded by the Fraser Valley market are truly endless and unique. 

Lots of Newer Homes

Most of the new housing developments in the Metro Vancouver area and beyond are actually taking place within the Fraser Valley.  That is because most of the region’s current (and future) population growth is set to take place in the Valley.  This is largely because of the fact that most of the developable land in the region lays within communities like Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford and Chilliwack.  What this provides homebuyers is a vast array of newer housing stock at affordable prices.  Instead of getting a 90 year old house in Vancouver, for example, a family could get a relatively young home with an ample size yard for their kids to play in.  So, if a backyard patio and play area area important to you, then the Fraser Valley could be a good option.

Lots of Great Parks and Recreational Programs and Facilities

A great attraction for young families, especially those with children, are the fantastic parks and recreational opportunities to enjoy, literally all across the region.  Many of the community centres in the various communities are fairly new, modern and clean.  These newer facilities have been built alongside all of the newer housing stock that’s been built over the recent years.  Within these centres there are loads of well-run activities and programs for kids.  Moreover, the Fraser Valley has numerous sports leagues and teams to accommodate kids with interests in any given sport such as soccer, hockey, football, gymnastics, dance etc.

Green space and access to nature and parks is easily available.  It doesn’t take you long to find a quiet retreat within nature to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.  Whether it’s Mill Lake in Abbotsford, Bear Creek Park in Surrey or Campbell Valley in Langley, there is a sanctuary nearby that’s easily accessible.  And that’s not to mention the beautiful boardwalk along White Rock Beach or the amazing sunsets at Crescent Beach.

It’s no surprise that you will find many young families around you in most urban parts of the Fraser Valley.  Affordability is very often the reason that so many young couples or families choose to put down roots here.  As such, if you are a young person, you will be in a demographic group that has a lot in common with you.  It will be easy to make friends with other families and for your kids to connect with others in the community.  There is still a small town feel in so many our neighbourhoods here that you come to recognize and see some of the same people fairly regularly.  This is especially true if you are a part of any club or recreational program.
